BBR MX-5 ND Super 200

SKU: N/A Category:

(2.0-litre ND models only) +45bhp & 26lb.ft - 5.65s 0-60

The Super 200 upgrade is suited to the flagship 2.0-litre Mazda MX-5 ND models and has been designed with complete forward compatibility with further BBR engine upgrades that will be launched to market in 2016.

Key components of the BBR Super 200 include:-

  • BBR Cold air intake system
  • BBR stainless steel 4 into 1 exhaust manifold
  • BBR high-performance intake and exhaust camshafts, upgraded valve springs and retainers.
  • BBR StarChip ECU Remap and ProECU

Designed to enhance the everyday driving experience for enthusiasts wanting the ultimate from their new MX-5, the upgrade represents the culmination of over two years of BBR’s in-house mechanical and electronic development work on Mazda’s advanced, direct-injection 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine, which despite producing 160bhp at 6300 rpm and 153 lb.ft at 4950 rpm as standard (when measured on BBR’s dyno) is noted for being unwilling to rev.

BBR’s ‘Super 200’ upgrade addresses this characteristic, significantly boosting peak power by 45 bhp to a mighty 205 bhp at 6950 rpm, allied to an impressive 179 lb.ft at 4950 rpm (a gain of 26 lb.ft). Crucially, where the stock engine is reluctant to attain higher revs, the BBR Super 200 equipped motor excels above 5500 rpm, offering intense, exhilarating performance and response all the way to the 7150 rpm limiter.

Initial performance testing indicates that (when fitted with the optional performance exhaust components) the 0-60 mph time is reduced from 7.3 seconds to a scorching 5.65, meaning that whatever the challenge the BBR Super 200 equipped Mazda
MX-5 can really punch above its weight.

However, numbers only tell half of the story. Such is the quality of BBR’s development work that the power and torque output of the Super 200 equipped MX-5 exceeds that of the stock 2.0-litre Mazda throughout the rev range, providing an additional 30 lb.ft of torque at just 3500 rpm, making this a highly user-friendly conversion designed for everyday driving.

The addition of a 2.5 inch diameter high performance TIG welded stainless steel exhaust centre section (£495.00) allied to stainless steel 2.5 inch BBR silencers (£395.00) boosts peak power to 214 bhp and torque to a mighty 183 lb.ft and provides the ‘ND’ model of the MX-5 with an exhilarating soundtrack designed to electrify any drive. Two silencer options are available from BBR, a quieter GT option for customers who prefer a subtle more muted note, or a Supersport option delivering a true sportscar note.

Exclusively from BBR, the Super 200 is available at £2795+VAT fitted (including dyno testing.) A DIY version  is also available including programming/diagnostic software and OBD lead is also available at £2195.00.

The road from Mazda MX-5 ND Sport, originally 160 Hp/200 Nm via BBR Gti Super 190 with 193,4 Hp/ to now Super 200 with 211.5 Hp/248 Nm was a journey from attraction and falling in love to pure passion with all what it takes. The last visit with BBR Gti included the complete suspension kit with adjustable Yellow Koni´s and BBR springs, and on the way are Wilwood 4-pot brakes. From wonderful by fantastic to really marvellous in response and precision. Passion sucks, thoug, and becomes nearly an obsession, even if very pleasant and inspiring. So, so satisfied by the last upgrade i´m just waiting for new Track-days to come – a car that was already hard to beat is now almost invincible. After 900 miles/ 1.470 km on Belgian, Netherlands and German Autobahn/highways I´m purely happy to the range of power of the car with the Super 200+.
Remains to be experienced at the track with this fantastic upgrade – the car was hot and hard with the Super 190, now it´s
just great, just waiting to test it out and blast like fireworks.

Er wow, thanks guys. I bought the parts and had my trusted local mechanic fit them. You assisted him with the software download, and verified all was well with a data file from a road test run. I have an 18 mth old 2 litre ND Sport Nav with 10,000 miles on the clock.
So what is it like? Fantastic in a word. There is a strength across the rev range, but it really excels at the top end, where before the standard car ran out of steam a bit.
Now it zings up to 7000 rpm with urgency and real power. This morning I managed a clear run up a sliproad onto an empty dual carriageway; flooring it in first had the traction control light flashing, bit of snaking, into second, more flashing from the traction control but pulling like a train, managed to red line in third before changing up and easing off. Wow. The car can handle the power and has a much improved feeling of excitement and urgency now.
This is my fifth MX5 (a Mk1, two Mk2s, a Mk3 and now this one). I loved the car before the mods, and decided this was money worth spending if I keep the car a good few years, which I intend to do.
It also has a set of BBR’s springs fitted – highly recommended also, see review – and the full exhaust and GT back box. The increased noise only helps the experience without being boy-racer loud.
All highly recommended. BBR clearly know what they are doing.
Just a small warning, it is quite a big job, so would only suggest using a mechanic you trust or let BBR do the work.

    Dear Great BBR GTI company:
I’m a MX-5 ND AT owner living in China. I’m very interested in Super 200 suite. But there are
    some question for that:
    1. In which way that I can buy it in China?
    2. If I have the honor to buy this suite, Should I buy the SKYACTIV-G forged low compression piston and rod set for Super 200? And If do not needed, is there any dangerous risk for my engine?
    3. The Super 200 can be used for Automatic gear box and i-Eloop system?

Hi Qi, Please email us with your enquiry, thanks!
