DIY INSTALL

BBR StarChip with EcuTek’s ProECU MX-5 Programming Kit or new Ecu Connect – customers can now elect to reprogram their own MX-5 using BBR’s EcuTek ProECU programming kit. The kit is supplied as a package, which includes all the necessary software and hardware to enable DIY upload (ROM flash) of BBR developed Mazda MX-5 ND StarChip ECU remaps. The ProECU programming kit can also be used for diagnostics and data logging. It is a powerful tool that allows users to fault find and clear fault codes on their MX-5, saving them costly and inconvenient visits to Mazda dealers. The hardware is not locked to a single vehicle and with additional BBR files it can be used to tune, log and diagnose multiple cars. This package includes your original standard MX-5 ECU file (ROM) in the unlikely event that you wish to return your vehicle to stock trim.

New Ecu Connect option – ECU Connect Programming Kit functions in exactly the same way as the ProECU programming kit enabling users to flash in a BBR tuned file. In addition, it also provides the additional features of ECU Connect when combined with the free ECU Connect app.

Priced starting at just £595+VAT saving £100 compared to when purchased separately. We will refund £100 should customers choose to return hardware in good unmarked condition once BBR’s StarChip has been installed.

FULLY FITTED

BBR StarChip – the thoroughly developed and tested ECU remap from BBR. Remapping the current Mazda SkyActiv engine for more than twelve months, we are the first company in the UK to remap the SkyActiv engine and the ND MX-5.  Countless hours of  dyno, road, and track testing, and more recently, endurance race testing, have gone into the BBR MX-5 ND StarChip. The torque graph produced with BBR’s remap is visibly smother than stock for both 1.5 and 2.0 variants, showing increases in power throughout the entire rev range. Cam and ignition timing as well as fueling (AFR’s) have been optimised throughout the entire rev range, delivering optimum safe performance gains. Throttle response is greatly improved, making the MX-5 a far more willing, eager and exciting car to drive. Equipped with BBR’s new fuel map, the car is more economical than standard when driven in a ‘like for like’ manner.

    Without doubt the best £600 i have ever spent.
    The engine was sweet to start with, now it is unbelevable for a 1.5
    Ive done a 0 to 60 average over 5 runs of 6.8 seconds using the car performance app on my android phone which uses gps so is very accurate.
    Waiting for the Turbo to be released for this engine.

    Many thanks for the job done here ! I’m looking for a reseller of bbr in france (lyon or paris). Could you give me some names ?
    Also could you send me the pdf with the data on your starship ? The one provided is on really low quality, I can’t even read MaxP and Max Torque reached by your car with your ecu. Good job !

    Very pleasantly surprised, the main reason for ordering this online was because the stock 2.0 runs out of steam at 6,000 RPM. Since the re-map there is real power all the way up to 7,150 RPM (limiter is 7,200 after re-map). The engine picks up a little earlier in the rev range, and the roughly, 14% power increase is actually very noticeable which I didn’t expect. Added bonus is I do a 310 mile journey every couple of months to see some friends, most visits left me with between 20 – 30 miles in the tank, after the re-map it’s 50-70 which is incredible given the above. Since purchasing this car I have been fixing all the things I didn’t like about it, this is one of the best mods so far in terms of value for money and boost to the smile factor whilst driving ; highly recommended.

    Some say that chip tuning naturally aspirated engines isn’t worth it. BBR GTI and the StarChip Super 175+ are here to proof the opposite. It’s not just the absolute increase in power and the higher rev limit, both clearly visible on the dyno. It’s the whole character of the G 160 engine that gets transformed. At the upper end it easily matches the rev happiness of the smaller engine, at the lower edge it feels beefy, juicy, torquey, whatever you want to call it. Brilliant.
    What’s more important, though: Neil is the kind of guy who won’t rest until the customer is completely happy. You don’t simply buy an off the shelf product. You will be supported by the leading expert for Skyactiv tunes. Next to the ST-X suspension, this is the best invest I ever made in my MX-5.
